The Tractor-Trailer

Aram Basmadjian started touring full time in 1992. His four-manual Allen touring organ was transported in the tractor-trailer pictured on the left. Aram drove the truck himself, which sometimes proved to be quite a challenge.
Unloading the Console Some loading situations are fairly straightforward, while others were extremely complicated and risky. In the photo, Aram (right) and Dennis Warren (left) move the console on to the platform lift while stagehands below supervise the operation. Dennis was Aram's road manager during the early years.
Console on the Crane As mentioned above, some venues required extra effort to get the organ in place.

Due to the multiple flights of stairs to get to the church entrance, a crane was rented for this March 1994 concert at St. Mary's Basilica in Phoenix, AZ. Aram's father, who along with his mother, toured with him for several seasons, is seen here on the mezanine level, while Jon Crum, Arizona's Allen Organ dealer looks on.

St. Mary's is on a busy street in downtown Phoenix. Police assistance during the installation and removal of the organ was required because the crane blocked most of the street.

Console at Home Aram no longer hauls the Allen Touring Organ around, however he practices extensively and continues to increase his repertoire.
